Sometimes it's easy to feel down on your luck and lose sight of what's important. If you're lacking inspiration lately, then you MUST see Soul Surfer, in theaters today, April 8.
Soul Surfer tells the real life story of Bethany Hamilton (played by AnnaSophia Robb), a competitive surfer whose dreams are challenged when she loses her arm to a shark attack. Surfing was always Bethany's passion -- her mom, dad, and brothers would surf together often near their Hawaii home -- so Bethany refused to let the shark attack keep her from living a normal life. With the help of her family and friends and church minster (played by Carrie Underwood), Bethany learned to cope with her new body.

But that wasn't enough -- not only did Bethany want to get back into the water, she wanted to compete! After tons of practice, wipeouts, and tears, Bethany began to doubt whether or not she could live her dream anymore. Determined to succeed, she practiced even harder and enlisted the help of her family and friends. She learned how to balance her body differently to stay on her board. Bethany eventually went on to win first place in her division -- she did with one arm what her opponents did with too.
Soul Surfer is such an inspirational film, and it tells Bethany's story truthfully and in entirety. This movie is a must see story of perseverance, faith, friendship, and love. What are you waiting for? Go out and see it!

AnnaSophia Robb stars in Soul Surfer (out April 8), the real life story of pro surfer Bethany Hamilton who lost an arm in a shark attack. J-14 sat down with AnnaSophia to talk about her inspirational movie, her hobbies, and her biggest insecurity.
J-14: What was it like playing a real person, as opposed to a fictional character? Did you study with Bethany Hamilton?
AnnaSophia Robb: When I found out about the Soul Surfer, I read and annotated Bethany's book. I had notes and questions -- all sorts of stuff. As I got to know her, I realized that I just needed to hang out with her. I needed to spend time getting to know her. We've actually become very good friends. I love spending time with her and hanging out with her. She was very open with me, and if I ever had a question, she would answer about how she felt about or how the attack happened, or how her relationships changed. She's also an extremely determined person. You have to be to be able to live that lifestyle and be a competitive world-class surfer. She loves the ocean. That was kind of something I got to develop, got to learn from her and gain my own love for the ocean as well through her.
J-14: Had you surfed before at all?
AnnaSophia: I had one lesson with my dad three years ago, which barely even counts as surfing. I trained for about six weeks for the movie. We'd only have one day off on Sundays, so I would always try to go surfing then. Sometimes I'd go paddle after work. I didn't always have time, but I tried. But I love it now. I do it any chance I get.

Carrie is set to hit the big screen as Sarah Hill in Soul Surfer. The movie is based on the real life of surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm in a shark attack but still got back in the water and had the courage to continue to surf. Race to Witch Mountain's AnnaSophia Robb plays Bethany, and the flick also stars big name actors like Parenthood's Craig T. Nelson, Helen Hunt, and Dennis Quaid.
