Stars Mourn the Loss of Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs

SteveJobs.jpg

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs "died peacefully surrounded by his family" yesterday at age 56 from pancreatic cancer. "Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being," Apple wrote on their website. "Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple."

Steve was the mastermind behind the iPhone, iPad, iPod, iTunes, Mac computers, and even created Pixar Animation Studios. (Pixar makes the Toy Story movies!) He stepped down from his position as Apple's CEO on August 24, 2011, which made many speculate that his health was taking a turn for the worse. "I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know," Steve wrote in his letter of resignation. "Unfortunately, that day has come."

When the news of Steve's death hit Hollywood, the stars came out in record numbers to Tweet their tributes:

Demi Lovato: "So sad to hear about Steve Jobs.. A brilliant man. RIP"

Joe Jonas: "R.I.P. Steve Jobs. Sad to hear. All the best to his family."

Taylor Swift: I never met Steve Jobs, but I always wanted to. What a tragic loss. I can't believe it. About to call my family and tell them I love them.

Nicki Minaj: "An innovator. Contributed so much to this generation & beyond. RIP Steve Jobs."

Kim Kardashian: "Wow Steve Jobs died! He was a brilliant man!"

Lady Gaga: "From his own invention I open my browser to it's homepage. Today it took my breath away. #ThankYouSteve. Going to eat Apples all day."

Daren Criss: "Thank you, Mr. Jobs, for making our world INFINITELY cooler."

Ian Somerhalder: "My heart and gratitude go out, like so many of us,to Steve Jobs and his family. You Sir are one of the greatest minds the world will ever see"

Ashton Kutcher: "We have all surfed on the wake of Steve Jobs ship. Now we must learn to sail, but we will never forget our skipper."

J-14 Juice: Five Things You Didn't See at the 2011 VMAs

JerseyShore2011VMAs.jpg

The MTV Video Music Awards always has people talking! J-14 was there for all the action and this is what you missed when the cameras weren't rolling:

1. Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas reunited! The former flames were all smiles when they ran into each other backstage. The pair hugged, chatted for a bit, and even posed for pictures. The best part? Demi's BFF Selena Gomez stopped in her tracks and watched the whole thing go down from the sidelines.

2. Lady Gaga was Jo Calderone all night! The singer, who dressed up at her "You and I" alter ego Jo, didn't break character all night.

3. Justin Bieber freaked everyone out with his snake! Justin had his snake Johnson wrapped around his hand all night. When he went to say hi to Demi Lovato, she screamed at the sight of the slimy creature.

4. Jersey Shore drama! While most of the cast boarded a private jet on Saturday to make sure they didn't get stuck on the East Coast because of Hurricane Irene, The Situation mysteriously wasn't at the award show. " I wish I could be at the VMA's but all flights were grounded because of the Hurricane. Sorry," he Tweeted. J-14 also caught up with Jersey Shore's Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and he told us that despite what went down on last night's episode, he and Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola are still a couple! "Me and Sammi are together right now," he told us. "Every day is something new."

5. Liz Lee ripped her dress! The My Life as Liz star had a major wardrobe malfunction on her way to the award show. "My butt is literally poking out of my dress!" she told J-14. Liz also dished that she is done filming the reality show for good.

Which one of these facts do you find the most shocking?

J-14 Editor Blog: Top 20 Summer Songs of 2011

GreysonChanceCodySimpsonGrove.jpg
Hi J-14ers!

The dog days of summer are here... super sunny weather, long lazy afternoons, and the perfect songs blasting to capture that carefree state of mind.

There's just something about certain songs that represent this time of year so perfectly -- so every year, I put together my list of Top 20 Summer Songs... and this year's choices are some of the most iconic yet.

And here they are... in no particular order...

Top 20 Songs of Summer 2011

1-"Tonight Tonight" by Hot Chelle Rae
"La, la, la, whatever..." -- it's impossible to deny the drop-everything-and-party attitude of the music and lyrics of this Nashville, TN, band's hit song. This feel-good tune is sure to break anyone out of a funk and get you bopping your head all summer long. (PS- Did you know Glee's Chord Overstreet's brother Nash is in the band?!)

2-"Unfriend You" by Greyson Chance
Not to judge a book by its cover, but the moment I heard that Greyson Chance's single from his album, Hold On 'Til the Night, out now, was called "Unfriend You," I was sold -- so brilliant and so "now." (And I'll admit I have "Unfriended" a friend or two... ;)). With a song that captures the emotion of today's social networking drama-rama so passionately mixed with Greyson's strong vocals, this is the ultimate song of the moment.

3-"Jet Lag" by Simple Plan featuring Natasha Bedingfield
Simple Plan is my all-time fave band -- and this single off their album Get Your Heart On! that came out in June just might be one of their best yet. It's the perfect mix of the catchy pop-punk music Simple Plan's known for plus the heart-wrenching lyrics of being away from the one you love that will tug at anyone's heart and leave you feeling just a bit jet lagged.

4-"The Edge of Glory" by Lady Gaga
Talk about an epic song. Lady Gaga wrote this song about the strength of love after spending time with her grandfather just before he passed away -- and it's sure to go down in music history as one of the all-time greatest power ballads.
