Stars Mourn the Loss of Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs

SteveJobs.jpg

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs "died peacefully surrounded by his family" yesterday at age 56 from pancreatic cancer. "Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being," Apple wrote on their website. "Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple."

Steve was the mastermind behind the iPhone, iPad, iPod, iTunes, Mac computers, and even created Pixar Animation Studios. (Pixar makes the Toy Story movies!) He stepped down from his position as Apple's CEO on August 24, 2011, which made many speculate that his health was taking a turn for the worse. "I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know," Steve wrote in his letter of resignation. "Unfortunately, that day has come."

When the news of Steve's death hit Hollywood, the stars came out in record numbers to Tweet their tributes:

Demi Lovato: "So sad to hear about Steve Jobs.. A brilliant man. RIP"

Joe Jonas: "R.I.P. Steve Jobs. Sad to hear. All the best to his family."

Taylor Swift: I never met Steve Jobs, but I always wanted to. What a tragic loss. I can't believe it. About to call my family and tell them I love them.

Nicki Minaj: "An innovator. Contributed so much to this generation & beyond. RIP Steve Jobs."

Kim Kardashian: "Wow Steve Jobs died! He was a brilliant man!"

Lady Gaga: "From his own invention I open my browser to it's homepage. Today it took my breath away. #ThankYouSteve. Going to eat Apples all day."

Daren Criss: "Thank you, Mr. Jobs, for making our world INFINITELY cooler."

Ian Somerhalder: "My heart and gratitude go out, like so many of us,to Steve Jobs and his family. You Sir are one of the greatest minds the world will ever see"

Ashton Kutcher: "We have all surfed on the wake of Steve Jobs ship. Now we must learn to sail, but we will never forget our skipper."

J-14 Editor Blog: Why I'm Obsessed With The Glee Project

TheGleeProject.jpg

Hey J14ers,

I have a confession: This summer I became completely addicted to the reality show competition The Glee Project... and I'm not even a huge Gleek! I'd usually rather DVR Shake It Up or 90210 than Glee, but something about The Glee Project had me hooked from episode one. And I'm not the only one! The show is so popular, they're already working on season 2! Find out how you can audition HERE.

Every week on the show, a group of way talented kids (including some really cute guys!) sing, act, and dance for their chance to win a 7-episode guest starring role on Glee. And they're crazy good at it!

Thanks to my amazing job at J-14, I had the chance to interview some of the contestants like Marissa van Bleicken, Cameron Mitchell, and Damian McGinty. They're all incredibly sweet and down-to-earth people who went from singing in school plays and making YouTube videos to being on TV pursuing their dreams -- so inspiring!

Now there's just one episode and four contestants left, and I have no clue who's going to win. Lindsay Pearce has Broadway power like Lea Michele, Samuel Larsen is an edgy rocker, Alex Newell has the voice of a diva, and Damian is just all-around talented (Plus, he has an adorable Irish accent!).

I can't wait until Sunday to finally see who takes home The Glee Project crown and will be appearing on the upcoming season of Glee. And as an extra treat, all of the eliminated contestants are coming back this week to help make the final music video of P!nk's "Raise Your Glass"! Check out a sneak peek below:

The Glee Project finale airs this Sunday, August 21, at 9 p.m. EST on Oxygen!

Who's your favorite The Glee Project contestant? Who do you think is going to win?

xoxo,
Ashley Spencer

J-14's Hot Guy of the Week: Darren Criss

DarrenCriss.jpg

Name: Darren Criss

Age: 24

Where to see him: Darren plays crooning Warbler Blaine Anderson on the hit TV show Glee and in Glee the 3D Concert Movie, in theaters this weekend!

Why we love him: Not only does he have an adorable smile, great hair, and cool California style, Darren is not afraid to be himself. He's also a big Harry Potter fan and was a writer and performer in the YouTube sensations A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel.

He talks about... the craziest thing he has ever done for love: "When I was in eighth grade, I was totally in love with this girl and my best friend conveniently lived next door to her. So I spent the night at my friend's house and wrote a tune [for the girl next door]. The next morning, I went outside and started throwing pinecones at her window. She opened the window and I played this tune, and I'm thinking this is the most crazy romantic thing I've ever done in my life, we're going to run away together and love each other forever and ever. So I finished playing the song, she came down to the door, and we hugged."

Now we want to hear from YOU, J-14ers! Do you think Darren is HOT or NOT? Let us know in the comments below!

Darren Criss to Replace Dan Radcliffe in How to Succeed...

DarrenCrissDanRadcliffe.jpg

Ever since How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying hit Broadway back in March, Dan Radcliffe has sang, danced, and given top-notch performances every single night.

Sadly, the Harry Potter star is on to other projects, and has announced that he will give his final performance as J. Pierrepoint Finch in How to Succeed on January 1, 2012.

Luckily, this doesn't mean the show is closing -- Glee star Darren Criss is set to replace Dan for three weeks, starting January 3. However, that doesn't mean that Darren's Glee character Blaine is getting the boot -- it's reported that Darren will only be missing one to two episodes of the hit show.

What do you think about Darren Criss replacing Dan Radcliffe?

Producer: Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, & Chris Colfer "Not Done" With Glee

LeaMicheleCoryMonteithChrisColfer.jpg

Gleeks couldn't believe their ears when just two weeks ago, Glee creator Ryan Murphy said that Lea Michele's, Cory Monteith's, and Chris Colfer's characters Rachel, Finn, and Kurt would not be returning to the show when their characters graduate at the end of season three in May 2012. "I felt that it would be great to have an open and closed experience for them to go out while they were on top," Ryan said.

But on Sunday at Comic-Con, co-creator and executive producer Brad Falchuk said that even though they are leaving McKinley High, it doesn't necessarily mean that their characters will be gone for good. "They're seniors, they're graduating, but just because they're graduating doesn't mean they're leaving the show," Brad said. He reminded fans that Lea, Cory, and Chris are still under contract.

Brad also confirmed to fans that Chord Overstreet will not be returning to the show in season three. Chord was offered a reoccurring guest starring role but "he decided he would have opportunities elsewhere that he would like to pursue, and we can't force him to work. We told him to go with god."

Are you happy that Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Chris Colfer are not leaving Glee for good? Who is your favorite character on Glee?

Sue Sylvester Encourages Glee Fans to "Stop Believing"

SueSylvesterStopBelieving.jpg

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie is hitting theaters in less than one month, and in true Sue Sylvester fashion, she's out to destroy the glee club. Sue has started a (fictional) "Stop Believing" campaign to try to convince Gleeks around the world to boycott the movie. Check out Sue's formal proposal letter:

From the desk of Sue Sylvester
William McKinley High School
July 15, 2011

For two years, we've been mercilessly bombarded with the pubescent nonsense of carnival sideshow freaks calling themselves "The Glee Club." These tone deaf, howler monkeys conned the plebian masses into downloading millions of songs; won Emmy Awards and Golden Globes; and have charted more singles than the Beatles. Roll over Beethoven, something stinks, and it ain't the cheese, it's The Glee Club.

And now, they're trying to shove a 3-D concert movie down our throats.

It is with this declaration that I put forth this nation's most important initiative since the McCarthy hearings: The Sue Sylvester "STOP BELIEVING" campaign.

It's time to make a stand against these pimply-faced, hormone-ridden twits by joining the "STOP BELIEVING" campaign on Her inaugural journey. Say "NO" to their insignificant cinematic experiment. I don't know about you, but I can't stand looking at their little satanic faces in 2-D, much less 3D.

Watching this movie is not only an atrocity to this great nation, but it's also bad for your health. If I may be so bold as to quote Dr. Charlie Sheen out of context, "Your face will melt off, and your children will weep over your exploded body."

General public, join me and together, we can put an end to this vomit-inducing, ear-ringing virus called The Glee Club.
